After the Public Beach, New Rules Hit Jbeil’s Historic Souk

After announcing new regulations for Jbeil’s public beach under the slogan “Red Lines on the Blue Line,” the municipality is now taking further action. This time targeting the city’s historic old souk, the heart of Jbeil’s cultural and architectural heritage.

In a new statement, the Jbeil municipality outlined a set of laws and procedures designed to preserve the souk’s identity, protect its visitors, and bring more order to the bustling area. The list includes several detailed rules that quickly caught public attention.

📌 Here are the new regulations for Jbeil’s Old Souk:

1. Vendors are prohibited from aggressively soliciting or verbally harassing customers to ensure a respectful environment for visitors and tourists.

2. Goods may not be displayed outside shop boundaries—this includes sidewalks, alleyways, and public squares.

3. Pubs must keep music volume within legal limits, especially after 9 PM.

4. Only handicrafts and souvenirs may be displayed in shopfronts. Other types of merchandise must remain inside.

5. Ice cream stands, coffee machines, and any sidewalk obstructions must be removed immediately to keep pedestrian paths clear.

6. Shop owners must maintain cleanliness and dispose of waste daily.

7. Tables must stay within designated areas and must not block public walkways.

8. Bars are only allowed to set up outdoor tables starting at 7 PM, and they must remove them after business hours.

9. The use of hookahs on sidewalks or in front of stores is prohibited. Only employees may use them during working hours, and not in view of customers or passersby.

According to the municipality, these rules aim to protect the cultural and visual identity of Jbeil, while also maintaining a safe and pleasant experience for tourists and business owners alike.
