Yervant Hawarian Brings Beirut’s Golden-Age Movie Posters Back to Life in Latest Exhibition

Art buffs with a love for nostalgia, Rewind, a solo exhibition by Yervant Hawarian, is bringing Beirut’s golden-age movie posters back to life.

On display at the Dalloul Artist Collective (DAC), the exhibition turns hand-painted cinematic icons into vibrant works of art, letting visitors step into a time when posters were part of the city’s streets, culture, and imagination.

Rewind revives the golden age of Lebanese cinema, from the 1950s to the 1990s, when these posters transformed Beirut into a living canvas. Film, fashion, and city life collided in bold brushstrokes and dramatic colors.

Hawarian brings these memories back with newly recreated posters on linen, inspired by the icons of his early career. Bold colors, dramatic compositions, and painterly flair turn each piece into a snapshot of cinematic magic. Posters that once lured people into theaters now hang as works of art, holding history, craft, and nostalgia all at once.

DAC is also hosting panel discussions on Lebanese cinema and visual culture, exploring how these hand-painted works became part of the country’s collective memory and why they still matter today.

Whether you’re an art lover, a cinema fan, or just in it for a vibrant outing in the city, this exhibition is your chance to press play on Lebanon’s visual history. For more information, make sure to check out his Instagram and enjoy a glimpse at his works.
