Lebanon Abolishes “Marry the Rapist” Law And Passes Animal Welfare Law

In today’s parliamentary session, two major steps were taken in the right direction.

Article 522 which previously allowed rapists to escape conviction if they marry their victim was finally abolished by the parliament after years of campaigning.

And the long awaited animal protection and welfare law was finally approved, a law that will protect all animals in many cases (animal abuse, illegal trade of endangered species, circuses, etc.).

These are two wonderful pieces of news for our Wednesday, and we hope for more to come!
