Such beautiful news out of Beirut today! The local supermarket and gourmet store
Marqet has upped the game by teaming up with the Lebanese NGO
Red Oak to make Marqet the first blind and visually-impaired friendly supermarket in Lebanon, and even in the Middle East.
The implementation aims to make shopping easy and stress-free for visually impaired customers by having trained guides helping them complete their shopping. This liberates shoppers from having to arrange for someone to accompany them and allows them to complete their shopping at their leisure.
We had hoped that the implementation would include incorporating braille throughout the supermarket as many visually impaired individuals do not need accompaniment and are fully self-sufficient.
Either way, this is an important step towards making the lives of differently abled people easier and we hope other supermarkets, shops, and businesses follow suit. Marqet, you’ve officially become our favorite Beirut supermarket!
