Decision To Freeze Bank Assets Suspended By State Prosecutor

Well, that was fast.

Lebanese state prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat has suspended the financial prosecutor’s decision to freeze the assets of 20+ local banks, issued on Thursday afternoon.

The reason behind Oueidat’s decision, as he states, is its possible effect on the monetary situation in the country, bank transactions, depositors’ money, and economic safety.

He said international financial authorities had also intended to halt dealings with Lebanese banks, without any further elaborations.
