Finance Ministry Director General Resigns Amid Worsening Economic Crisis

Senior Lebanese finance ministry official, Alain Bifani, who is also a part of the negotiating team with the International Monetary Fund, has officially resigned today after 20 years in service.

He is currently holding a press conference to explain the reasons behind his resignation, but told Al-Jadeed earlier today that the “reckless” way in which politicians have handled the country’s crisis is what pushed him to resign.

“I submitted my resignation because we reached a dead end and a high level of risks that could no longer be dealt with silently,” he announced in the press conference.

Henri Chaoul (former member of the Lebanese International Monetary Fund negotiating team) also submitted his resignation earlier this month, accusing politicians and authorities of settling for a “populist agenda” and “options to dismiss the magnitude” of the crisis.

Is this more proof that the Lebanese system will never be reformed?
