Demand For Intensive Care Beds Is Expected To Increase In Lebanon

The director of Beirut’s governmental hospital Dr. Firas Abiad has sounded the alarm yet again regarding the increase in the number of COVID-19 patients being admitted to hospital this past week.

Dr. Abiad clarified that during the last few days, the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care increased by 21.7% (163 patients), while the capacity has only increased by 15.4% (129 beds).

Dr. Abiad added that he expects that the demand for intensive care beds is expected to continue to rise, with one of the possible reasons behind the increase in deaths being the delays patients are experiencing in receiving care.

COVID-19 death rates have peaked this past week, as 404 corona patients died. Our hearts go out to their families, patients are not just numbers.
