Lebanon’s rapid hyperinflation has severely controlled women’s lifestyle when it comes to feminine hygiene. Period poverty is now an inevitable reality that many women face, as the price of sanitary products have sharply increased by 320%.

Local initiative “Fe-Male” in partnership with “PLAN international” has conducted national studies on the repercussions of period poverty in Lebanon, which concludes that more than two thirds of women in Lebanon have difficulty accessing menstrual supplies, and other hygiene products.

“#Nashftolna_dammna, is their latest campaign that stresses on the matter, revealing that 76% of women do not have direct access feminine hygiene products. The aggravating economic crisis has left many in search of other unsafe alternatives, which pose a threat on their physical and reproductive health.

Other NGOs such as Dawrati and Jeyetik have been tackling Period Poverty since 2020, aiming at providing menstrual producuts to those in need.
