CCECS, the Service-Learning Initiative and TEMPUS group at the University of Balamand are co-hosting a training institute entitled "Peer Learning Workshop on Community-Based Learning - Principles, Practices, and Course Development".
With the support of an EU-Tempus project (Developing Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Partnerships across the Curriculum; details appended below), the Center for Civic Engagement and Community Service (CCECS) at AUB and the Service-Learning Initiative and TEMPUS group at the University of Balamand (UoB) are co-hosting a 4-day training institute titled "Peer Learning Workshop on Community-Based Learning - Principles, Practices, and Course Development". This intensive workshop will be facilitated by local, regional, and global experts in the field, and promises to be filled with thoughtful and engaging discussions with peers and facilitators.
The workshop will cover the groundwork and basic issues community based learning (CBL) - or service learning -, community based research and scholarship, and building and strengthening community partnership, and concludes with a development by each of the faculty participants of a draft proposal for a CBL course (detailed syllabus with implementation mechanisms, etc...).
