ISF Reports Increase In Domestic Violence Calls Since Beginning Of Lockdown

Amid the current coronavirus lockdown, many of us have been confined to our homes.

But this is an especially heartbreaking reality for domestic violence victims, who are trapped in with their abusers.

Internal Security Forces in Lebanon have reported an increase in domestic violence calls during this period, received to the hotline they have set up for such cases.

According to the ISF, there has been a 100% increase in domestic violence reports in March 2020, in comparison with March 2019.

They reported receiving a total of 88 cases in one month only.

The domestic violence hotline was set up back in October 2018, after statistics showed that one woman is killed every month due to domestic violence.

The hotline has been active since, and was considered an encouraging step forward, especially knowing that abused Lebanese have often been reluctant to resort to authorities in cases of domestic and other forms of violence for fear of ridicule and not being taken seriously.

To reach the domestic violence hotline, call 1745. Make sure you memorize this number and share it.
