Beautiful Cafe The Sage Parlour Is Saying Goodbye To Beirut

A restaurant and cafe that celebrated great food, brunch hour, and the calmer side of the city, The Sage Parlour has sadly announced that they would be saying goodbye to Beirut.

It’s no secret that the current financial and economic crisis has taken a toll on many local businesses, forcing them to shut down and let go of their employees. We have seen the likes of Bristol Hotel,  Balthus restaurant, and Dar Bistro & Books each close their doors, and one of the most recent victims of this hard-hitting reality is TSP.

In a heartbreaking Instagram post, the owner and managing partner of the restaurant, cafe, and local goods shop said,

“The Sage Parlour will be closing its doors indefinitely come Wednesday 15th.

In the span of a little over two years and a half we’ve cracked 69,438 eggs, shown 26 local artists’ work, sold local products, hosted countless pop-ups, unions and baby announcements, becoming a part of the community I have a fervent love for. (Allow me these helpful, happy remembrances as I make this announcement.)⁣

With the advent of a most righteous revolution, the pandemic’s recent lockdown, and most importantly, the current state of the Lebanese Lira, it is inevitable that we search for a new venue for the parlour to thrive. Our every effort to keep our entire team on, sustain everyones’ pay, replace imported ingredients with locally-sourced options, increase our prices and attempt to negotiate on the currency front have been in vain as the turbulent economic forecast has begun to envelope the country. ⁣

Now at the risk of sounding eagerly optimistic: what goes down must come up, and we expect to see you on the other side of these circumstances, sooner rather than later – so watch this space.⁣

My fellow small-business owners, starter-uppers and dreamers, true grit also involves knowing when it is time to take a step back even if it is only to re-evaluate your footing. I would whole-heartedly lend an ear and my every effort to support you if you’d like to contact me on this subject maysoon@thesageparlour.com.⁣

Finally, a grand thank you dear neighbors, collaborators, friends and family for the love and light you’ve filled our parlour with. It has been a pleasure serving you. ⁣

Maysoon and the TSP team.”

We can’t help but think of all the employees and businesses that are paying the price for a crisis they’re not responsible for.

Goodbye TSP, you were always a happy place.
