Here Are Some Places That Have Closed So Far In Lebanon

Political troubles, economic depression, and COVID-19 have wreaked havoc on Lebanon’s various sectors. With many businesses sinking under the weight of their debt, they have been forced to shut down to avoid further losses.

Here are some of the great places we’ve had to say goodbye to over the past year (end of 2019 – 2020).


1. The Gathering



Another victim of the trying economic times that are currently plaguing Lebanon, Gemmayze’s iconic restaurant The Gathering has closed its doors and said goodbye after 18 years of operation. Read more here.


2. Istambouli Restaurant



Hamra’s iconic Lebanese restaurant kissed the city goodbye before the new year.


3. Le Bristol Hotel



Open since 1951, the iconic Le Bristol Hotel announced that they will be closing down permanently last month. Read more here.


4. Hotel Alexandre



Located in Achrafieh, the hotel first opened in 1966 and has been a landmark in the area. It was renovated in 1997. It announced it would be closing down last month. Read more here.


5. Dar Bistro & Books



A world that celebrated books, good wine, and photography Dar Bistro & Books sadly said goodbye to Beirut last month. Read more here.


6. Boutata


The French fry centric shop has seemingly shut down their branches.


7. The Cheesecake Factory



The American restaurant shut down operations in Lebanon back in May of 2019. Read more here.


8. Balthus



After 20 years of serving upscale fine dining, the Downtown Beirut spot shut its doors. Read more here.
